💜 Real Life Example
Why Independent Advocacy Matters
A family contacted Reach Care & Dementia Advocacy because they had concerns about a loved one living in a care home.
The care home had received a good CQC rating, which initially gave the family reassurance. However, they still felt something wasn’t quite right and wanted an independent perspective.
During our visit, we reviewed the concerns raised and identified an issue relating to medication management. This was not a minor medication; it was an important medication that had the potential to significantly impact the individual’s health and wellbeing if not administered correctly.
We supported the family in raising their concerns appropriately and helped them navigate discussions with the care provider.
As a result:
✅ The issue was investigated.
✅ The medication concern was resolved.
✅ Appropriate measures were put in place to reduce the risk of recurrence.
✅ The family felt reassured that their loved one’s wellbeing was being prioritised.
To provide ongoing peace of mind, Reach now carries out regular monthly visits to help monitor standards of care and maintain communication with the family.
What This Shows
A positive inspection rating is important, but it doesn’t always reflect every individual’s day-to-day experience.
Sometimes families simply need an independent advocate to ask questions, raise concerns and ensure their loved one’s voice is heard.
